Satureja Viminea or Costa Rican Mint is another name for the Jamaican mint which we have in our herb garden. In Jamaica we call it “Pepper Mint”.
The Satureja Viminea is not a true peppermint plant and its aroma is described as serpentine savory.
We use it mainly for tea to soothe stomach aches and for gas.
The Satureja Viminea or Jamaican mint is also used for baths and body gels which cools and tingles – invigorating the body and lifting the spirit.
I also read that the fragrance of the Satureja Viminea is pure and very intense. Unlike the well-known peppermint herb, this plant has a woody stem, upright growth and keeps a bushy shape. The Jamaican mint can be trained into a small tree reaching 6-7 ft in height.
