Blood Lily

Last year we got a Blood Lily (Scadoxus multiflorus) that was already in bloom. It withered away in winter while we had warm Jamaican sunshine; we don’t have snow in winter time.  It sprouted again at the start of Spring and this week began blooming its beautiful ball of red flower.

The Blood lily is also called Fireball lily or Ball of fire lily.  The flower lasts up to two weeks.

Blood lilies have seeds that can be planted when ripened.  Please note that the plant and its seeds should be handled carefully as they are poisonous to both humans and animals.
