Goodbye Katydid

I saw a green Katydid just outside our door in the night and as usual it was not welcomed. The Katydid (Tettigoniidae) is a nocturnal insect relating to crickets; it is also known as the Bush cricket and Long-horned grasshopper. katydidKatydids have leaf-shaped wings and are good jumpers. They live in trees, bushes, or grasses and often resemble the appearance of their surroundings.

I understand that most times when a Katydid flies into your home or rests upon you, this indicates a bad omen. Seeing the green Katydid signifies that someone you know has come down with an illness, while the brown Katydid signifies that someone you know who is ill has died or will die soon.

This may be an “old wives tale”, but I always kill the Katydids, roaches etc. that fly in through our window at night time. katydid
