Ever since childhood, I’ve come across a greenish looking fly hovering in mid air. When you walk by, it will move away, but it will return to the almost exact spot where it was hovering.
This fly – the Ornidia Obesa (Fabricius), is a metallic hoverfly; it is also called the green hoverfly. The green hoverfly is known to breed in semi-liquid waste, and urine polluted areas; you will find them hovering near garbage, animal dung and even in public bathrooms. This fly is known for carrying bacteria such as Salmonella, Shigella and Mycobacterium.
