Tradescantia zebrine

We have the Tradescantia zebrine plant in our yard, it is popularly known as Inch plant, Purple heart plant, and Wandering Jew. The Tradescantia zebrine is a creeping houseplant that has zebra-patterned variegated leaves of green with purple stripes and a silvery sheen.

This plant does well in partially shaded areas, but some varieties will need more sunlight to keep their color intensity. The Inch plant grows well in hanging baskets and is ideal as a groundcover outdoors. It is easy to grow and must be maintained regularly since it tends to become an invasive species.

Some persons may develop a skin irritation when they come in contact with the sap of this plant.
