We always know when the season of Lent will begin around our home, it’s when the lilies start blooming. Today I spotted our Amazon lily in bloom and took a photo of it just after a light shower of rain. The Amazon lily (Eucharis x grandiflora) produces a flower stalk with five to six snow white daffodil-like blooms. These blooms have a sweet fragrance.
These plants, which grow from bulbs, require very little care. They prefer a lightly shaded environment and are known to thrive indoors. So Lent is just ten days away, it will begin on Ash Wednesday – February 18th and last for 40 days.
Lent is the period of time when Christians prepare for Easter by observing a time of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose of Lent is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ – his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial and resurrection.
