We’ve got ginger growing again in our herb garden; I spotted a few sprouts coming up. It’s always good to have this herb around. Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is used as a spice and medicine. The root can be used fresh, dried, and it can be candied. I read that the ginger plant is a flowering plant, but I’ve never seen it bloom.
Ginger is used mainly for treating stomach problems such as motion sickness, morning sickness, colic, upset stomach, gas, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, as well as loss of appetite. It is also used for pain relief from arthritis, muscle soreness, and stomach pain.
