We have a watermelon seedling appearing amongst the many other plants growing in a flower pot on our balcony. The watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) vine produces fruit that is rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, and Vitamin C.
The watermelon, being a pink fruit, indicates that it is a high-lycopene food, similar to tomatoes, pink guavas and pink grapefruits. Lycopene is important for our cardiovascular health, and for bone health. I understand that the watermelon is a vegetable that is popularly used as a fruit. It may be cooked or eaten raw. All parts of the fruit, and the seeds are edible.
