Our Torch lily (Scadoxus multiflorus) has bloomed again this year. It is a very lovely flower which can last for up to two weeks. The Torch lily is known by several other names – such as Blood lily, African Blood lily, Paintbrush lily, Football lily, Powderpuff lily, Poison root, and Fireball lily.
I guess it is also called Poison root since it is indeed poisonous if eaten . . . causing symptoms such as increased salivation, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The Torch lily plant is easy to care for, and can be grown from bulbs and seeds. You may read more about this plant here.
