Today’s Photo – Maidenhair Fern

I found a couple Maidenhair ferns (Adiantum formosum) growing under a tree in our hillside; surprisingly, they are lush and green in this dry spell. This is a different specie from the Maidenhair fern I photographed before.
Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum formosum)I read here that one specie – the Northern Maidenhair fern, was at one time smoked for heart trouble, and a powder of the plant was smoked and used as snuff for asthma. Some persons also chewed the green fronds of this type of fern for shortness of breath; and dancers, during the winter, chewed it for strength and endurance.
