Our love birds at home are fed seeds all the time, but they seem to be always longing for something green to chew on, and to eat. They’re always excited when we place leaves from the mango tree or palm tree inside their cage.
Today, they uttered shrieks of joy when I gave them some lettuce; and although it promotes diarrhea in these birds, they love eating it just the same. Eating green foods is good for us, and it is important that we eat something green everyday.
Green foods are powerful antioxidants, and they are rich in chlorophyll and minerals. Some of the most essential nutrients: calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamins B, C, E, and K are found in green foods which are vital for our body’s health. Green foods, especially dark leafy ones, contain large amounts of water, and are therefore low in calories. They also contain phytonutrients, which are special chemicals that help boost the immune system, and protect against cellular damage.Eating green foods in their raw state help neutralize the body and clear out toxins; they also acts as a detox agent in the body, and help alkalize the body . . . keeping our PH at a healthy, stable level. The nutrients in green foods are known to help protect the immune system and fight off viruses and bacteria.
Further, dark, leafy greens such as spinach and kale, are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are vital for all body functions and for lowering bad cholesterol. So as you eat your meals today, don’t forget to eat something green.
