After several days of heavy rainfall, most of the blossoms on our Fijian Longan tree (Pometia pinnata) fell off, however today I found a couple young Longan fruits on the tree. I read the Longan fruit is borne in clusters like the Lychee, and variously colored (greenish-yellow, yellow, red, purple, blackish, or brown). The semi-transparent white flesh is aromatic, juicy, and sweet with a pleasant flavour.
Each fruit contains a single large seed. The oily seed is only eaten after boiling or roasting.
